What we are looking for
The Brief.
Paradox Lab is a creative production studio funding entertainment drawn from the real world of medicine — laboratories, biotech, venture capital, insurance, hospitals, patients, and the people inside all of it. These are things that touch every one of our lives, that almost no one knows anything about. We exist to bring to life the stories that change that.
What We Fund
Any format that can move and inspire an audience: docuseries and feature documentaries, scripted drama, comedy series, podcasts, short-form video, experiential and live storytelling. We fund development — writing, research, production development — and, for the right projects, full production.
What We're Looking For
Stories that take the audience somewhere they've never been. The lab at 2 a.m. The trial that failed three times before it saved a generation. The kitchen-table conversation about a diagnosis. The deal that decided whether a cure got made. The denial letter, and the person who wrote it.
We want the audience along for the journey — and challenged about what they think they know about healthcare, pharma, insurance, drug development, and the people inside those worlds.
We lean into complexity, ambiguity, and moral difficulty.
The most powerful stories in this space end with the audience entertained — but also understanding something they didn't before, and glad that they do.
What We're Not Looking For
Stories where the drug company or the insurer is the easy villain, and the story ends there.
Stories where 'the system' is broken, full stop, and nothing can be done.
Stories where the only characters who care are the ones who work for free — as if you're not virtuous unless you're saving lives for nothing.
Work that arrives pre-concluded. We are not making propaganda — for the industry or against it. The real world is more interesting than either.
Accuracy Is the Asset
The Pitt works because real ER physicians are in the writers room. Funded Paradox Lab projects get the equivalent: direct access to the scientists, physicians, investors, and patients who live these stories. We will never ask you to flatter this world. We will help you get it right.
How to Submit
A logline, a short pitch (one page is plenty), and why you're the one to tell it. Sample script pages, dialogues, or a sizzle video are welcome but not required. Submissions are rolling and free. You keep your rights.
